The Combined Club Captain and Junior Captains Charity Day, was exceptionally well supported by members and guests with a great turn out. Nearly 90 players participated, gent’s ladies and juniors with prizes for all groups.
The competition was a Texas scramble format with a shot gun start, and although it was certainly nippy the sun shone for us. The competition was tough with some great scores; winners of the day were:
- Dave Coombes
- Penny Palmer
- John Humphries
- Adam Thompson.
The club put on a great buffet style meal of chilli and Rice with a choice of deserts.
Juniors (the lucky bunch) had an option of choice of sausages and mash.
Although a fun day, the aim of this event was to raise funds for Break Through Cancer, and a guest speaker for from the organisation Lorna explained the work that her and her team did, and how it benefited sufferers of this devastating disease.
Lorna went on to explain that the organisation was purely funded by donations and how events like the charity day made a tremendous boost to funds and help the organisation care for their patients.
A number of fund raising initiatives were used, including part of the game fees, raffles and the big auction of the day which members and guests generously and enthusiastically took part in. The auction comprised of 20 various lots and raised nearly £4,600 by the end of the evening, with all funds going to charity.
A great day with good and generous company making a difference for those less fortunate.
